Deacon Nominations

The Deacon Nomination Team of Hyde Park Church (HPC) seeks from the church membership nominations of men to serve as deacons of Hyde Park.

Deacons are men who have demonstrated a servant’s heart through sustained service, who meet the scriptural qualifications, who have been selected by the Church, who have been ordained as deacons, and who have freely agreed to serve as deacons.  The basic scriptural qualifications for deacons in a local New Testament Church are contained in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.  Many scholars also agree that Acts 6:1-6 either records the origin of the office of deacon or at least foreshadows it.  Members are encouraged to read and prayerfully consider these passages as they consider a nomination. 

It is important that the members of HPC select deacons whose lives exemplify the qualities identified in the referenced passages, including, but not limited to the following: 

• Men who are committed to the spiritual discipline of walking with the Lord Jesus Christ and striving to be conformed to His image. 

• Men with servant’s hearts, demonstrated through a proven record of service within HPC. 

• Men who promote unity and harmony within HPC. 

• Men who support the staff, ministries, and goals of HPC. 

• Men who set an example of giving by enthusiastically giving at least the whole tithe (10% of income) to HPC. 

• Men who completely abstain from alcoholic beverages. 

In addition to these qualifications, deacons should be in agreement with the statement of faith of the Church as referenced in the Bylaws.
